Jolly Elf
Trail Run 2011
The 2011 Jolly Elf Trail Run in Bond Park was a huge success with
over 850 runners in all! It was a festive way to end the Second
Empire Grand Prix Fall Series. This year’s balmy weather was a
slightly "warmer" welcome for the holiday runners. While the
One-Mile Fun Run and 200-Yard Dash were full of ambitious children,
the 5K had a tremendous showing of young talent this year with a
quarter of the runners under the age of 16! Race results listed on
http://results.active.com

St. Michael School Band
Christmas Concert
The largest number of band students in
recent years performed Tuesday night, December 13th, at a Christmas
Concert at St. Michael Parish School. The St. Michael bands are
broken down in to three groups: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each band
performed a selection targeted to their experience so far. Our
biggest band, the Bronze Band has 36
players! Although
the Bronze Band have only been playing their instruments since
September,
they gave a rousing performance of “Jingle
Bells”
and “A Holiday Sampler”.
Our more experienced band
members in the Silver
Band challenged the audience to keep up,
with their version of “A
Very Mixed Up Christmas”.
The advanced players in the
Gold Band wrapped up the
performance with “The
African Bell Carol”.
The audience was also treated to
solos performances by trumpet player, Viet Nguyen, clarinetists Aiden
Cooke and Nicole Davis and flutist, Julie Salcido.
In January, the
director, Mrs. Okamoto, will begin working
on new
pieces for the bands’
annual Spring Concert.

The Wizards of St. Michael
Place....Mysteries and Miracles
Our
Halloween this year focused on a school-wide theme. Our day included an
interactive Prayer Service, FAST TRACK FRIDAY and our
Quarterly Luncheon. Children were dressed in orange and black and
teachers dressed as "wise wizards".
FAST TRACK FRIDAY allowed all students in grades 1-4 to
"move up' to the next grade level. First grade teachers visited
Kindergarten and Pre-K classes. "Halloween style" activities
integrated content areas throughout the day. Students in grades
5-8 were challenged with concepts and skills not traditionally learned
in the middle school textbooks.

From Our Kindergarten....Lighting
the World
We had a great time coloring leaves for our classroom
tree. Our leaves reminded us that “Falling Into Faith and Friendship” is
always good to remember when we partner with our buddies in Kindergarten
at Our Lady of the Perpetual Help School. We plan to send them a leaf
that they can color and return to us so that we can place them on our
classroom trees. Together we will fall together in faith and friendship!
