PRINCIPAL'S LETTER

May 28, 2008

Dear Parents,

“Here I Am….”

Theme for the 2007-2008 school year

This is the final letter of the 2007-2008 school year.  This has been one of the fastest school years that I can remember.  My Mother always told me that, “time flies when you are having fun.”  I have truly had fun this year.  I am grateful for the ability to be involved in a work that still brings me great fulfillment and many reasons to laugh each and every single day.  I am grateful for the partnership that I share with you as we work to educate your children to be the future leaders of our Church and of our world.  I am grateful to Mrs. Carlin for her leadership, her wisdom, her efficiency, and her friendship, as we have worked together to lead this school toward the future expansion and building program.  I am grateful to the teachers who have challenged me to continue to grow as a professional educator. I am indeed grateful for Msgr. Tim who starts his day with the St. Michael School community by opening car doors and witnessing to “servant leadership.”  He is committed to the mission of St. Michael School.  I pray that God who began this good work at St. Michael School will carry it through to completion

During this school year many of our parents have dealt with serious illness.  Mrs. Terese Flaherty, mother of Maggie in Grade 5, has been diagnosed with breast cancer.  She underwent surgery last week and faces more surgery and treatment over the summer.  Please keep her in your prayers during the summer months as you continue to pray for Peter Heath.  Peter’s surgery went well and he continues to inspire so many in our school community by his determination and faith.  Let us all remember to pray for one another. We never know what is happening in the life of the person who you see in carpool everyday.

Please remember in your prayers Mrs. Terri Wasley (Grade 7 homeroom and Spanish teacher) whose grandmother died last week.  Mrs. Wasley will be in New York for a few days this week to be with her family and to attend the funeral.

Report cards will be mailed to your homes on Monday, June 9th.  Report cards will not be issued to any student whose Parent/Student Handbook Signature page has not bee submitted, who has outstanding library fines or books that have not been turned into the library or returned to the classroom.  In addition all accounts including tuition, After School Care, Debit Cards, graduation fees, etc. must be paid in full before report cards or transcripts are issued.

Plan to join us for our End of the Year First Friday Mass and Awards Ceremony on Friday, May 30th.  The Liturgy will begin at 9:45 AM with the Awards Ceremony to follow in the Church.  Dismissal on that day will begin immediately after the ceremony.  Students should wear their uniforms.

This week's Angel Bucks results: Total Sales:  $36,646.74Profit:  $1.983.34.  Look for an Angel Bucks letter and your year end statement with your child’s report card.

Thanks to everyone who returned the Parent/Student Handbook Signature page by May 23, 2008.  Your child’s final report card will not be sent if this document has not been submitted.  Remember, the changes to the 2008-2009 handbook are printed in red

I will be teaching at the University of San Francisco this summer.  In addition, I will be speaking at various places throughout the United States, but will be checking e-mail and phone messages.  Tom and I will travel with Lauren and her fiancé, Rafael, to the Dominican Republic to begin planning their wedding scheduled for July 11, 2009.  Mr. Davey will be taking classes to complete a second Masters degree at Notre Dame this summer.
